Are You Going to Suffocate in Your Energy Efficient Home?

Energy efficiency is a very important consideration for homeowners. Energy prices are always in the process of skyrocketing, it seems, and everyone would like to cut their expenditures in that area. There?s also an increasing environmental awareness that is leading many people to look for ways to cut their power use.

If you ask about the best ways to increase energy efficiency, you?ll often hear someone talking about closing up the leaks in your home. You don?t want your cool air to be replaced by August heat. There?s no reason to make your cooling system fight that hard. Likewise, there?s nothing comfortable about allowing the frigid air of a January blizzard into your living room. Why crank up the heat when you could deflect the cold instead?

But some people worry about closing those leaks. They understand that infusions of fresh air are necessary for the well-being of the folks who live inside. If everything?s buttoned down tight, isn?t there some risk for trouble?

Not really. First, your home will never become completely impenetrable. You?ll always have some level of outside air circulation. Second, you can open doors and windows when appropriate to accomplish the same ends. Third, if you?re really concerned you can install a ventilation system that will insure fresh airflow.

If concerns of a ?clamped down? house have kept you from aggressively pursuing energy efficiency, it?s time to rethink your perspective. You have nothing to worry about.
