You?re not a plumber, are you? Then why are you even thinking about tackling a plumbing job as part of your home improvement plan? If it?s a major project, you might be on the wrong side of local ordinances if they work in question should require the efforts of a licensed plumber. If it?s a serious improvement, the job will probably outstrip both your toolkit and your talents.

There are times when you just have to pick up the phone and call in the professionals. In many cases, that?s what you should be doing with plumbing jobs.

There are exceptions, however. There are some plumbing-related tasks that you can do without calling for a pro.

If you consider minor repairs part of home improvement, fixing a leaky faucet or showerhead are perfect examples. So is installing new ?guts? for your toilet to prevent water waste.

You can climb up the ladder a little bit, too. You probably won?t need expert guidance to install a garbage disposal or an under-sink dishwasher. Those are the kind of projects that a do it yourselfer can manage without incident.

The point? There are times to do things without the professionals and there are times when you simply must get a licensed plumber involved. When you find the line of demarcation between those two points, you?ll get the job done without taking any unnecessary risks.
