When we think of improving heating and air conditioning systems in order to improve energy efficiency, our focus is usually on the actual devices. It?s true that you can make a huge impact in that department by using the right units, but there?s something else that can really make a difference–your ductwork.
Loose, clogged, broken and otherwise deficient ductwork is a huge efficiency robber. One estimate states that as much as one-third of the total energy expenditure associated with cooling can be traced back to faulty ducts.
So, go ahead and buy a great heat pump that promises efficiency and boasts great numbers on the Energy Star Label, but don?t stop there if you?re really serious. Make sure that your ?ducts are in a row?. Have them inspected and have all problems an shortcomings repaired.
By tightening up on the ducts, you can substantially reduce your energy expenditures by encouraging maximum efficiency.
